Pepe Bradock needs no introduction. Legendary French producer since the early '90s, remixing for the likes of Nicolas Jaar, Diz, Iz, Cassius and Alex Gopher amongst many others. He gives here a twisted interpretation of Brandt Brauer Frick's 'Bop' taking you on a journey, slowly building into its deep groove!
Leonel Castillo aka Boeing, is undoubtedly Argentina's - if not Latin America's - most talented electronic producer. While his releases remain extremely rare, his daily creations keep adding and adding onto the thousands of tracks he produced over the past 20 years. A simple, low-profile and highly refined individual, Leonel devotes most of his time to shape his magic world made up of Techno, Dubtechno, Deep House and Dubstep, dropping mixes for Lee Curtiss, Diminutos and Miguel Tutera. His rework on 'You Make Me Real' is a slow burning Deep House rendition of the album's title track.

Following the stellar trip down 80s lane with the Bicep boys, Mystery Meat returns with two rip-roaring edits from soho808, another rising duo, but this time from across the pond in NYC. These fine gents have been causing an absolute ruckus over the past few months or so following appearances on Soul Clap's Social Experiment 002 mix (not to mention doing an awesome podcast for Soul Clap's acclaimed series) as well as Jamie Jones' Fabric 59 mix, Berlin's Dikso imprint, and being featured on The Wurst Music Ever compilation due out this fall. Big tings a gwan to say the very least!
Here we see the chaps head into edits territory, well sorta. To call these edits is quite an understatement. soho808 give a serious overhaul to two songs of discos past, adding additional instrumentation and tweaking the arrangement big time. First up to bat is "Trouble and Strife", an amazing, slow-burning take on one of the most famous of songs from the past couple of decades. Trust us, you can't resist! Flip it over for a loopy counterpart, low-slung, sultry female vox and all. Mmmm, we'll bring our meat to "Suzy's BBQ" any day!

Or as he puts it quite eloquently, “I know this is going to sound weird, but the outro of that song reminds me of the Boyz n the Hood soundtrack-the part where Doughboy is pouring his beer on the street.”

Soundway have been championing Joni Haastrup since day one featuring MonoMono tracks on both the 'Nigeria Special!' and 'Nigeria Rock Special!' releases. Most recently Joni appears as a guest keys players on Black Goddess, an Afro-jazz soundtrack collaboration with Remi Kabaka.
Growing up in a royal household in Nigeria, Joni Haastrup began his musical journey performing for his brothers band Sneakers and was quickly snapped up as a vocalist for O.J. Ekemode and his Modern Aces' 'Super Afro Soul' LP, one of Afro-beat's formative LPs. Soon after, Ginger Baker of Cream fame replaced Steve Winwood with Joni on keys for Airforce's UK concerts in '71 and the success of the collaboration led to further shows with Baker as part of the SALT project before he returned to Nigeria to set up MonoMono.

Jeffrey Lewis returns in 2011 with "A Turn In The Dream-Songs," his sixth album for Rough Trade Records. Leaving behind most of the garage-rock bursts that peppered previous albums, 'A Turn In The Dream-Songs' is perhaps a sweeter record than any Jeffrey has released before, a warmth that is enhanced by the fact that the current songs were recorded (and mixed!) entirely on two-inch analogue tape at England's Analogue Catalogue all-vintage studio. Jeffrey's band on this record is a five-piece, with mandolin by Franic (Wave Pictures) Rozycki and drums/bass/cello from Johnny Flynn's backing band the Sussex Wit (which includes Jeffrey's long-time drummer David Beauchamp). Most of the songs were recorded live-in-studio at Analogue Catalogue's cozy HQ in the misty hills outside of Manchester, UK, often with all five musicians captured on tape performing together in one room, although some wonderful additional assists were also provided by members of Dr. Dog, The Vaselines, Au Revoir Simone, Misty's Big Adventure and Schwervon!, all of whom have been Jeffrey Lewis fans/touring partners in the past couple years.

Emerging from the creative cocoon that has enveloped them since wrapping up promotional efforts for their 2007 grammy-nominated debut †, Xavier de Rosnay & Gaspard Augé, the influential Parisian duo known as Justice, have announced the impending release of their second album Audio, Video, Disco. Straying even further from their dance music roots the new effort is at once looser and heavier than previous releases, using the combined musical vocabulary of rock and electronic to conjure a laidback, agricultural effort existing on the outer fringes of pop.
Audio, Video, Disco was created in the duo's home studio, with all instrumentation performed by the group themselves. Seeking to create an album that would evoke the feel of progressive rock, the duo labored meticulously to learn instruments they had not previously conquered to craft an epic masterpiece that exchanges the “night in the city” setting of their debut with an “afternoon in the country” atmosphere. The remixers were chosen for their forward thinking as well as for their catalogue of previous remix experience. Scientist starts it off with a retouching of the single 'One World' and later re-enters with a
ganja smoked up 'Herb 4' (dub style, of course) and he even throws in a disordered ordered mix at the end for good measure. Prefuse 73 pushes his space-age hip hop way in, via the future, with his take on a piece from Incunabula. Mad Professor stumbles in dubbin' his ass off. SubCode, a Moroccan remixer we have been chasing for a while, remixes as if his life depended on it, the Hawk track 'Do or Die'. Dr Israel remixes two tracks, one of his and one of Hawk's and this is something I wish he would do more of, the man can remix damn it. MRC Riddims, the production/DJ team of Oktopus (dalek) & MRC (from Ifwhen & All Natural Lemon & Lime Flavors) join in with a reshaping of 'Elijah's Lament' done all Krooklyn style. Bill Laswell not to be upstaged, contributes two mixes from Incunabula, a dub out and an ambient version of 'Quantum Echo'. Perdurabo 6, via the Basque speaking part of Spain, gives his almost 6 minute take on 'One World' quite pleasant really.

Mungolian Jetset is back with a debut, cheekily masked as their third effort, but seriously, this is their first album of totally original compositions. Here is the undiluted Mung, neatly naked wrapped behind a pair of strobostatic glasses , like a mature and experienced buxom page3 wench from a 25th century comic book. Infamous for their epic translations, collaborations and remixes for artists such as Lindstrøm, Mari Boine, Nils Petter Molvaer and others, they have already firmly developed their own unique sound, that is equally progressively disco and psychedelically intoxicating, as it is hilariously cheesy but imbued with a mysteriously deep resonance from some far-off planet`s core. Rather than delivering another full-on take of the epic entertainments that have become the staple of their reputation ( or notoriety, depending on who's talking ), they have now taken more scoops of melody, poptastic whimsy and lighter shades of oddness, to hybridize with their already mutated sound. The result is "Schlungs", a series of 8 separate entities united by their sheer MUNGNESS. The epicness remains, but now sits alongside pieces that are more direct, mainlining the exuberant folly that is the sound of Mung; however, this is Mung directly into the frontal lobe…..Lyrically, "Schlungs" involves tales of fatal alien abductions and ghosts of murderous (but snazzily-dressed) transvestites, as well as confessions of dark and illusory multimedia desires and dispatches from the borderline state of the all-consuming hyperrealism of the Internet. Characters from the fringes of reality with odd-sounding yet somehow familiar names wander through the streets of Mungville, and usually break into ecstatic dance before their end is met. This is what would have happened if William Burroughs had been given a backdrop of disco instead of bebop. Instead of The Naked Lunch, this is The Naked 7-11 Hotdog.

The album exudes a liberal dose of subtle, stealthy swing, yet, as steeped as she is in the jazz tradition, Zara has brought an eminently soul undercurrent to what she does, and her music will appeal to audiences weaned on Jill Scott and Erykah Badu as easily as to those more attuned to Cassandra Wilson or Dianne Reeves. Anybody keeping an eye on the ongoing development of the British jazz scene will have noticed Zara McFarlane in the last few years. The 28 year-old London vocalist has made string of impressive appearances with musicians who don't choose their collaborators without careful consideration, such as Denys Baptiste, Orphy Robinson, Soweto Kinch and Jazz Jamaica All Stars, to name but a few.
Blessed with a fine voice and real a strength of character in both her performance and writing, Zara's finesse and delivery stems both from a natural gift, and from years of formal study at a very high standard. Having completed courses in both Popular Music Performance at Thames Valley University and Jazz Studies at the Guildhall School Of Music, she is as drawn to popular culture as she is high art, and her work to date wholeheartedly shows that she is comfortable in a wide variety of contexts.
