On the long, dusty bus journey back to Scrondonday Airport they are awoken by a chubby African youth playing a Smith and Hack mix-tape out of his mobile phone speaker. Having not previously slept for 5 days the Geese were not best pleased and challenged the youth to a duel. One thing led to another and before long the youth led them through a waterfall and into a crypt said to be haunted by the ghost of Ron Hardy.

It only takes one listen to Jee Day's “Like A Child” - and its whirling, hypnotic rush - to recognize the know-how that has made studio whiz Dennis “DJ” McNany a go-to source in New York City's dance music scene. Over the last decade, the sound architect has become a musical jack-of-all-trades: Fine tuning releases from outfits such as The Rapture and Turing Machine; working on early output from DFA Records; maintaining his own Run Roc label; remixing artists like Panthers, Ghostape and Digable Planet's Ladybug Mecca; and contributing keyboards and percussion on tour with The Juan Maclean. In light of the already impossibly long list of credits to McNany's name (including the numerous pseudonyms under which he's released his own music) the Jee Day debut 12” is a bit like a first listen to an artist who audiences, ironically, have already heard many times before.

It seems like an age since the last one but Firecracker are finally ready to drop their 6th release, and lordy it's huge! A four-track EP from premiere Ukrainian electronic artist Vakula that's crammed with analogue rawness, soviet synths, sci-fi soundscapes and a Detroit state of mind. His music sits perfectly with the current early house revival, along with his Afro-American influence, but in truth it's much closer to the Ukrainian land and its culture. Music which is simple and melodious as Taras Shevchenko poetry and fat as Ukrainian lard. So even when his drum machine starts to beat in a Theo Parrish style, we still hear a story that's far away from America - "when I was 13 I shepherded outside the village"… And that is what Konotop House is!
As usual, it will be 10", limited and comes with bespoke Firecracker artwork by House Of Traps.

Il duo composto da Gadi Mizrahi & Zev Eisenberg, entrambi di Brooklyn, ci presenta così il meglio delle proprie produzione realizzate in questi anni. I due hanno iniziato a collaborare circa dieci anni fa con lo scopo di approcciarsi in un modo differente verso le musica. Guest vocalist Heidi Happy weaves her voice through the panpipes and electronic moaning on 'Takla Makan', but the quality of the samples and arrangements stop this album from ever becoming a pastiche. L'etichetta ha contribuito fortemente alla crescita culturale di Manchester negli anni 80 e soprattutto ha introdotto profonde innovazioni nel panorama discografico indipendente.
