HOUSE (12 inch) 2010
Rush Hour RH111-D
Oh sheesh - it doesn't take genius to work out who was leading the tribe on this one! The flip contains a Rick Wilhite remix of the 90's classic Urban tribe production, D2000 (originally a one sided 12"on Mowax). BIG RECORD.
Rick Wilhite and his Vibes new&rare music record store have been a main source in Detroit for over 17 years. His store is the place to go for many Detroiters looking for new soulful, electronic music. And as a DJ and promoter Rick has been holding it down for years. Next to that he mostly known for his affiliation with Three Chairs (together with Kenny Dixon Jr & Theo Parrish) and for his solo recordings, under his The Godson pseudo.
Now its time for Rick to get his peers and friends in the mix for his first compilation, aptly titled Vibes new&rare music. The compilation is spread out over four 12”s, which will be followed by a compilation CD with exclusive tracks and features only the best of Chicago and Detroit electronic music. All tracks are new and exclusive.

HOUSE (12 inch) 2010
Rush Hour RH-VD1
House ... Rush Hour presents a new series of releases entitled 'Voyage Direct'. This series is about all about feel good club music and is curated by Tom Trago. Hence the name Voyage Direct, which was also the title of his debut double EP.
Dexter kicks off this series in a classy style with his Junofest EP. This is easily his best work since his genre breaking electrofunk hit 'I Don't Care from 2000. And now its time for 'Junofest EP'. The title track is a steady, yet smooth club groove with enough wsing to make anyone dance to the music. A true party starter.
On the AA side we find 'Not The Only One', an infectious vocoder vocal track that makes you smile. This is one of those rare tracks that has a poppy, commercial feel without losing its underground raw appeal. It could just be his biggest track since 'I Don't Care'.

Side A “21:4 (The IPS Prayer)” is all about losing that one love and is a sentimental piece of house music while “Mystical Crossings” on the flip is all about the mystical and divine aspects of life.

ELECTRO (12 inch) 2010
Dfa DFA2261
It only takes one listen to Jee Day's “Like A Child” - and its whirling, hypnotic rush - to recognize the know-how that has made studio whiz Dennis “DJ” McNany a go-to source in New York City's dance music scene. Over the last decade, the sound architect has become a musical jack-of-all-trades: Fine tuning releases from outfits such as The Rapture and Turing Machine; working on early output from DFA Records; maintaining his own Run Roc label; remixing artists like Panthers, Ghostape and Digable Planet's Ladybug Mecca; and contributing keyboards and percussion on tour with The Juan Maclean. In light of the already impossibly long list of credits to McNany's name (including the numerous pseudonyms under which he's released his own music) the Jee Day debut 12” is a bit like a first listen to an artist who audiences, ironically, have already heard many times before.

HIP HOP (12 inch) 2010
Alpha Pup APR025LP
Hip Hop - Experimental / Electronic ... "Drift" is the debut full length album from electronic producer Nosaj Thing. His electronic sound scapes and wild beat tectonics play like vignettes that affect the listener's mind as deeply as he hits their soul. Without a doubt, Nosaj Thing is among L.A.'s finest musical modulators. Tip!
Nosaj Thing has received Artist-to-Watch accolades from XLR8R, remixed Daedelus and Flying Lotus, won Plastic Little/Turntable Lab's remix contest featuring MF Doom, and won L.A.'s prestigious Project Blowed beat battle. The BBC has been especially supportive of Nosaj Thing, with major spins from Pete Tong and Mary Anne Hobbs. He has shared the stage with the likes of Z-Trip, DJ Krush, Free the Robots, Flying Lotus, Glitch Mob and Daedelus. He's also a staple and a crowd pleaser at L.A.'s seminal Low End Theory club night. Comparisons run along with Ratatat, DJ Shadow and Boards of Canada.

ROCK-POP (LP) 2010
K Records KLP219LP
Experimental Rock / Indie Electronic! Mahjongg's third full-length, The Long Shadow of the Paper Tiger, is a more collaborative affair than their earlier work-- although without studiously poring over the liner notes, you may not notice. Almost every track here is labeled as having some sort of guest spot, though the identities of those guests are obscured, both in how they're credited and how they sound in the context of these songs. Many are from the band's hometown of Chicago, including Bobby ("Robert" here) Conn and Jeanine O'Toole from the 1900s, but nearly all of the guest vocals are heavily manipulated until they're indistinguishable from the rest of the band's strange sonic soup.

Rock... 'Church With No Magic' is an album that builds upon the anthemic, synth-driven instrumental movements for which PVT is renowned, along with the power of their visceral live shows. It's a dark and expansive sound that PVT have made substantial movements on this record to make their own.

ELETTRONICA (2x12 inch) 2010
Bombay Connection Records BC302LP
Techno / Electro - Electronics ... A 1982 released LP called 'Ten ragas to a disco beat' containing Kraftwerk-like acid house music, years before the genre was invented ! TIP!
Performed on the synths that would later define Acid House, the Roland TB-303 and TR-808, the album sounds light years ahead of its time with its repetitive beats and hypnotic electronic melodies. Its maker, Bollywood session musician Charanjit Singh, set out to translate ancient Indian classical Ragas to the modern synthesizer and in doing so seems to have invented House music along the way. The 10 tracks make a consistent listen from A to Z. Its restrained minimalism and lack of cheesiness makes it incredibly contemporary, sounding animated, fluid and unabashedly alive.

Dekmantel DKMNTL002
Techno / Electro ... Dekmantel's first-ever release sets the standard higher than an Amsterdam tourist, thanks to the multi-talented Israeli duo Juju & Jordash. Now on CD! Pinpointing Juju & Jordash's style isn't easy. Say they make fearless jackin Chicago house and they'll reply with a cosmic experimental slow jam. So it's no surprise, really, that this LP ranges from experimental tracks like the oud-flooded 'Jugdish' and the reggae-jazz jam 'Niks' to pulsing deeper tracks like 'Time Slip Remix' and 'Quasi'. 'Deep Blue Meanies', 'Pulse A Denura', 'Dirty Spikes' and 'Jazzy Trance' are - plain and simple - pure dance-floor material. Raw, energetic musical bliss.
