Across the 1960s and 1970s, Truck Drivers became the unlikely heroes of the American Dream: mythologized, idolised and lionized in song and on screen. It was estimated, at the time, that more than 2 million ‘Knights of the Highway’ were ‘burning bitumen’ at any given time of the day or night – carting the goods, fuels and resources.
